Father's Day

OK - I wasn't going to bring this up but today is Father's Day. Today was always one of my favorite days. My dad and I would go fishing. Every year, we would get up early and head to Buckroe Beach or when things were really good, we would go on an adventure to Nags Head for the day. It was my favorite day of the year. He had his hunting with Chris and David and he had his golf with Kenny. I think he golfed with David too.
But fishing on Father's day was mine! Dad died 10 years ago on my birthday. Since that 10 years, so much has happened to me.

  • had to leave teaching

  • became a corporate trainer

  • laid off from training

  • started full time seminary the next year

  • graduated from seminary

  • moved to Boston

  • Became a full time minister

  • now losing weight
Dad was so proud of me as a teacher. I heard he talked about me to all his buddies at the construction company, proud of his daughter the teacher. I wonder if he would be proud of me now. I think he would be. He wasn't a fan of the church because of the way church treated him. But he was at my baptism. He was proud of me as a teacher but I am not an elementary school teacher. I am in a place trying to make it better than the way church treated him. I am still teaching, just teaching what he taught me.
Miss you Dad. I am working hard and I am happy. I am doing what God wanted me to do and I am with some good people. I hope you are proud of me.

I found the Beach!!

Ok, I finally got to a beach. I went to Revere Beach today and had a great time. Although, I must say, even though it feels cool outside, the sun is still very strong. My skin is a little toasty right now. I may have been a little late in putting the hat on.
Oh well - I got to spend some time on the beach!!!!!!! The water was COLD. 58 degrees I believe was the water with a high of 79 in the air.
It is cool enough that the lifeguards have to stay bundled up. haha.

Baseball Heaven today

Ok. I got to do something really cool today - I went on a tour of Fenway Park...the oldest ball park in the country. I could not get tickets to the game, so I did the next best thing. Here are the pictures. Click on the link

Edward Hopper at MFA

My favorite artist, Edward Hopper, is in a special exhibit at Boston's Museum of Fine Art through August. I got to take part in the program today. It was awesome!
The first is Self Portrait, Second Story Sunlight,
Apartment Houses, lighthouse, and his more famous Nighhawks. Amazing work. I like the simplicity of his work while at the same time, leaving you with so many questions about what is going on inside the subject, scene, etc... The focus on light and emptiness fascinates me too.
What are they talking about? What is she thinking? Who is going to come around the corner? Many questions that are up to us to answer.

A Scary Moment

While I was out today, my landlord had someone come in and work on the house. He is doing work on the vents and will be in and out of my apt. I kept asking if the cats were going to be ok and he said yes. When I got home, one of my kitty cats was missing, Jelly Bean. I searched EVERYWHERE for her and could not find her. I even looked up the fireplace. Nothing. I went outside and searched around and she was nowhere. I got my landlord and he helped me to look. He looked in the basement and did not see anything. A few minutes later, he had me go down in the basement and I looked all over, calling her name.
Then there was this little crawl space with some wood and insulation in it. I reached my arm in and moved the insulation and Jelly Bean was hiding underneath the pile. Man o man was I scared. It took her a couple of minutes to get up and come towards me, but she finally came to the edge.
I took her back home and she started eating her food.

Good weekend

A friend of mine came to visit this weekend. Mandy, a BTSR grad and a minister in Lynchburg. She came in town for a long weekend. Blue Man Group to Quincy Market; from Paul Revere to the New England Aquarium. We took the town by storm. I even met a new boyfriend. Figure out which one is the boyfriend, the statue of the penguin? Haha.
The rest of the pictures are in my photo album. Mandy, thanks for coming!
